The Sill
The Sill is a conceptual brand identity project for a community-focused coffee shop designed as a welcoming space for creativity, connection, and everyday rituals. Inspired by the feeling of gathering around a favorite windowsill, the brand explores how visual identity can capture warmth, energy, and shared experience. This project includes the development of a brand system, including logo design, color palette, and real-world applications.
The inspiration for The Sill came from a personal space: a living room windowsill where friends gather to talk, celebrate, read, and share coffee. This everyday moment became the foundation for a brand centered on connection, comfort, and creativity. Photo styling was developed to reinforce the brand’s tone, focusing on candid moments and warm communal settings that reflect the experience of gathering and creativity.
Like a windowsill, the coffee shop is imagined as a place that invites people to pause, reflect, and engage with others. The brand aims to reflect the emotional qualities of these spaces: community, warmth, energy, relaxation, and brightness.
Below the iterative development of the logo is showcased, featuring early concepts and explorations that informed the final design. Multiple rounds of refinement focused on form, typography, and composition were had to create a mark that clearly communicates the brand’s identity while remaining versatile and visually cohesive.
The final brand identity was designed to communicate warmth, openness, and modern energy through thoughtful use of typography, color, and composition. Typography choices balance friendliness and clarity, supporting both expressive branding and functional readability. The color palette uses bright, inviting tones to evoke optimism and liveliness while maintaining a cohesive and approachable aesthetic. Together, these components create a flexible system that can adapt across digital and physical touchpoints.
